Although we are coming to the end of the 20th anniversary of black history month, there is still so much that can be said about a renewed sense of focus about black history in the UK. Over the next few weeks I have planned time to visit a number of influential people within our community to start the first of these interviews. I will be doing some speaking over the course of black history month as well which will highlight some of the achievements of those in our community. I have also started writing some articles as well on the issues and will be including these as well as the interviews. Ironically I have had emails from a number of Americans who want to be included as part of this project, but respectfully I want to big up the UK role models first, as the US normally get all the airplay. Your time will come.
This year’s black history month will be the catalyst to get this exciting project going.
Some people have asked me if I am not afraid of people stealing the idea? Duh! If others want to get on board and highlight our achievements and they get there before, who really benefits. I am just excited no matter who it is that highlights the champions in our community.
Onwards and Upwards
